Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers
Along with Max Roach and Kenny Clark, Art Blakey is one of the great drummers to pioneer the be-bop sound, while also integrating a rhythmic style taken straight out of African folklore. Actively involved in the music scene since 1939, he reunited in 1955 with all of the initial members of the Jazz Messengers. As guardians of the “Hard Bop” sound, Art Blakely and the Messengers transcended time despite numerous personnel changes. Borrowing from blues as well as gospel, the historical repertoire of the Jazz Messengers, is a tribute in honor of the exceptional visit by the great drummer Art Blakely in Montreal.
